Spotlight on Powerhouse’s Amanda Thurn
Time flies when you are having fun. And from celebrating Powerhouse’s 10th anniversary, to sharing the goodness, to getting prepped for the holidays, we have been having a blast! The celebration continues as this month we shine a spotlight on the amazing Amanda Thurn.
Amanda has the distinction of being one of the first Powerhouse clients to also become a Powerhouse freelancer. Amanda worked for two of our nonprofit clients, The Children’s Hunger Project and the Space Coast Basket Brigade, and it was, as they say, meant to be when six months ago Amanda brought her talents to Powerhouse itself.
As part of Powerhouse, Amanda wears a few hats, working in business development, client care management, grant research, and community and corporate outreach. It is not a stretch to say that in the few months she has been with us, Amanda has already made an invaluable contribution to Powerhouse and our clients. It is a feeling that is mutual as Amanda states that her favorite thing about Powerhouse is “the wonderful and motivated people I get to work with daily.” Self-described as “results driven and a good communicator,” Amanda has elevated the services Powerhouse can offer clients, helping the teams she serves on bring their best to the table.
While not a military spouse per se (Amanda’s husband, Todd, served in the Marine Corps Reserves before she met him), she still sees the need for the portable careers Powerhouse offers. As someone who has worked in both traditional and remote settings, Amanda knows how important it is to be versatile as well as to set effective boundaries and nurture relationships. That is something she thinks Powerhouse does well and one of the reasons she does not see herself leaving Powerhouse any time soon. “I see myself growing and learning from the great team I’m surround by,” she says. “I want to become a better and more versatile team member.”
When not working for her Powerhouse clients, Amanda loves to spend time with her family, especially her three children. Her oldest son is preparing for his future in heavy equipment operator school; her middle child, is training in a ballet company and continuing his education while also pursuing higher-level dance opportunities; and her daughter is attending a dance high school in between finding ways to rescue animals . With all that going on, Amanda still lists giving back to her community as one of her favorite hobbies, along with cooking and reading. We are not sure where she finds the time, but we know that her community is lucky to have her and her family!
With a favorite hobby like Amanda’s, it is no wonder that her passion lies with our nonprofit clients and the services we provide them. In fact, her favorite Powerhouse project to date has been researching grant opportunities for one of our nonprofit clients. Finding opportunities for our nonprofit clients who work so hard to bring needed services to their communities just makes getting up for work worth it.
As always, we asked Amanda to share something that not everyone might know. She told us that she and her family have moved 19 times all over the state of Florida, which just might make her the Powerhouse employee with the most moves under her belt, beating out some of us who have been in the military life for over 20 years! Now that she is with Powerhouse, at least finding a job the next time they move will not be a factor—just one of the many perks of being part of a total remote team solution.
